I love hungarians. I am so grateful I have been able to get to know so many of them already. Theres nothing quite like seeing a 89 year old néni start speed walking along her bike and jump on midstride. This week for cultural experiences we got fed by a néni who was so kind to make dinner for all four missionaries. Last time we went over to her flat she made really good rakott krumpli so we had WAY too high of expectations. We began to eat her 4 course meal with delicious soup then mashed potatoes with bacon wrapped chicken legs we assumed. We assumed wrong. As we each bit into the bacon with way to much confidence and excitement we were all crushed when the inside meat? crumbled and filled our mouths with dry chicken liver. I dont know why huns like liver so much. It doesnt make any sense. But the best part about it was she made enough feed the entire branch and when I had eaten 3 she said "oh are they not good?" But with a smile on my face (completely fake smile) I continued to torture my mouth till I had probably eaten 6 full chicken's livers. Im sure theres bound to be someone who like chicken liver reading this. And I dont actually have anything to say about it but what a waste of bacon.
That was one of the low points of the week though so dont worry it wasnt all that rough. We were able to meet wit Mária at the branch house with a member.(She is the lady who called US last week!) We gave her a tour where we got to talk about the sacrament and introduce baptism. She was pretty distant at first but then she warmed up to us and kept telling us there was something so different about us and there was a light in our eyes. How cliché does that sound... pretty amazing hah. I love her alot. We taught her the entire restoration and gave her some chapters from the Book of Mormon to read before we meet next week. She was excited and gave us a REFERRAL! (Her ex-husband who is an alcoholic-- should be an adventure!)
The rest of the week was spent tracting and talking to people on the street as well as visiting members. I love the members here in Szombathely they are amazing and I can feel Gods love for them whenever Im with them. Highlight tracting from this week was when Elder Heaps hit a doorbell (Thats a firealarm volume bell at every door) they usually just go until you take your finger off of it but he hit this and it kept going and going and going. 15 seconds later I was in tears laughing and Elder Heaps paniking. We decided to get out before their neighbors all come out and yell at us. 8 floors later (4 stairs at a time) we ran out of the building We could still hear the eternal csengő ringing. We wont be returning to that building for a few days.
I hope everyone enjoyed General Conference as much as I did. My entire life every session has been long with maybe one talk that really stood out to me. This time I was tuned it to everytalk. Its weird and amazing at the same time. I loved hearing from President Monson and President Nelsons talk on Priesthood power really stood out to me. I loved listening because I was able to find so many things I can work on and improve! I hope you can all find something to improve on from conference. Dont be satisfied with where you are. Shoot for exaltation and nothing less.
I love you all so much
sok szeretettel,
Hughes Elder
